Innerscapes is a series of abstracted visceral imaginary landscapes. The initial inspiration was a desire to escape obstructive grey cityscapes by painting boundless horizons and limitless colours. The artist however, felt compelled to restrict herself to an unconventional size for such an endeavour, by using 1m square canvases as if looking through vast expanses through a small window. The tension between freedom and limitation, possibilities and constraint, is inherently present in these compressed landscapes. The choice and collision of colours reveal the artist’s disposition; each painting becoming a subconscious mood board of sorts.
