At first glance, INNERSCAPES may appear like paintings inspired by ancient rock strata or abstracted colourfield landscapes. They come in a rich colour palette of layered hues and depict an array of intricate mark making. The overall look is intriguing, partially familiar yet somehow otherworldly.
The artist intended these works as an exploration into the inner self. Each layered landscape is a metaphorical strata of the human psyche, the sediment of memories, identities, and experiences that shape each of us in unique ways.
The series serves as both mirror and window: a mirror reflecting the intricacies of our own inner worlds and a window into the rich complex layers within others. Each painting can be viewed as an introspective self-portrait of our own "inner-scape". They may also encourage us to acknowledge that there is often beautiful layered intricate hidden landscape withing others, as different or even unappealing as they may first appear to us. INNERSCAPES asks us to look deeper for untold stories within ourselves and others.
