Fading into Glory

This photography series is based on the Japanese concept of “mono no aware” or heightened sensibility towards impermanence and transience of one's environment. My objectives were to glorify the extraordinary beauty of otherwise overlooked parts of our surroundings while celebrating the final cycle of life.

I was moved by a single dead leaf most would mindlessly step over. I felt compelled to try and capture its essence and find a way to visually exalt its exquisite beauty and uniqueness for all to see.

A variety of different types of leaves will be on show including 36 from the same tree displayed in various stages of decay. The more ravaged they are by time the more exquisite and striking they are to me. As their canvas disappears it reveals their inner life in the form of a most delicate and striking lacework.

Fading into Glory is an invitation to observe one’s surrounding more keenly, more empathetically, and rejoice in the process of discovery.
